| Bio: | General Information Name: Merry Chase McKay Nicknames: Chase or McKay. Age: 24 Birthday: September 13th, 1984 Day of Birth/Color: Thursday/Orange/Destruction Gender: Male Myth Name: Meredith Rodney McKay Myth: Stargate Atlantis Section: Television Special Powers: Artificial ATA gene that allows him to interface with Ancient technology. Retained/Acquired Powers: Rodney is able to understand/build complex devices...but only when he's under pressure or his life is in danger. Appearance Height: 5’10 Eyes: Brown Hair: Either light brown or dark blond, depending on the season. Build: Average with a touch of extra padding around his middle but surprisingly strong arms. Dress Style: Casual to slightly dorky. He doesn’t pay a lot of attention to his clothing most of the time beyond “Is it clean? Does it smell? Does it vaguely match?” He has a tendency to wear slogan t-shirts—Threadless.com is his fashion mecca. Skills Strength: 7 Dexterity: 7 Constitution: 5 Intelligence: 12 Wisdom: 6 Charisma: 5 Psychology IQ: Genius. No, really, he’s a certified genius. Not that MENSA means anything anymore. They set their standards too low. Phobias/Fears: Dying horribly in any number of ways. He’s thought through many of them, sometimes in detail. Never making a name for himself. Losing his intelligence or ability to reason. Mental Health: Oh, he’s just fine, thanks. Religious Beliefs: Atheist. He was raised happy-fluffy Wiccan, but, yeah, no. Extrovert/Introvert: Extrovert Health Eyesight: Average Hearing: Very good Left/Right/Ambi: Ambi, after working on it for some time. Physical Health: He’s a bit of a hypochondriac, so asking him isn’t a good idea. Ultimately, he’s fairly healthy but has a few severe allergies (citrus, bees, peanuts), mild asthma, and hypoglycemia. General Dexterity: Excellent, excellent manual dexterity. He is good with his hands and can manipulate tiny wires and such. Just don’t ask him to dance. Handicaps: Severe allergies, mild asthma, hypoglycemia. Hypochondria. Foot in mouth syndrome. Special Abilities: Technical genius, able to fiddle and fix all manner of machines, including ones he’s not exactly familiar with. Figuring out what things do even if there isn’t exactly a guide. Annoying everyone within a 20 yard radius. Coming up with brilliant, creative solutions at “crunch time”. Really, being insanely brilliant under extreme pressure. Music. Personality Goals/Dreams: He’s frankly torn between becoming a Nobel Peace Prize-winning Theoretical Physicist or going in with his best friend Amos to build a computer system that blows Mac and PC out of the water. Quirks/Habits: Snaps his fingers at people, mutters to himself while he works, flaps his hand when he’s blowing someone off, actually likes bad food (including Power Bars and hospital Jello cups), leaves Post-Its on his work that say things like DO NOT TOUCH ON PAIN OF EVISCERATION, drinks enough coffee to kill an elephant, uses his hands to talk in incredibly intricate and theatrical ways. Likes: Coffee, science, technology, working, research, being right, good Sci-Fi, bickering, watching movies, new discoveries,…Ferris Wheels. Dislikes: Being wrong, “soft” sciences, shoddy work, people meddling in his work, citrus and peanuts, being bothered when he’s busy, being showed up. Current Family Parents: Mountain Laurel and Oceanus (they both changed their names when they joined their coven). Siblings: Endless Journey Spouse/Serious Lover: None, thank you. Not that he has any trouble picking up The Ladies. He could have swarms, really, if he just put his mind to it, but he has much better things to apply his mind to. Children: Yeah, no, he’s not stupid, thanks. Close friends and other notable: Amos, his roommate. They ran away together platonically several years ago and have been living (and working) together ever since. Past Family Parents: Mr. and Mrs. McKay Siblings: Jeannie Spouse/Serious Lover: Katie Brown; Samantha Carter (in his head, at least); intense long-term obnoxious crush on John Sheppard. Children: No, the universe is thankfully not that cruel. Close friends and other notable: John, Teyla, Aidan, Elizabeth, Carson, Radek, and Ronan were all close friends. He was particularly close to John and Carson. He was friends with Sam, even though she was so very much in love with him. (Again, in his head.) Present Background Occupation: PhD student and co-owner of a fledgling business, ZPM Enterprises. They do computer/technology repair but their main focus is finishing their design for an incredibly cool personal computer. He does minor contracting positions on the side and is being wooed by the military for weapon development and research programs. (Which, yeah, no.) Domain of: Archer and Venturus Education: PhD student with the likelihood of another PhD when he’s done with this one. (There’s no point in having just one.) Activities: Working, research, working some more, geeky conventions, piano lessons, going to the gun range for some reason he cannot fathom, road trips. Home: Small place with Amos, from which they run ZPM Enterprises. Finance: Much, much better than it used to be. Some of his contracting work has begun to pay the bills in a major way, but their research requires so much funding that it all goes into that in the end, really. History: Chase was the second-born son of two very scarily dedicated fluffy happy Wiccans in Canada. They lived in a very small town mostly comprised of his parents’ coven, which was almost enough to drive him to murder at a young age. Thankfully, Chase found an outlet—Science and Math, specifically Physics and Engineering. He was fascinated by technology, taking things apart and putting them back together again. (Or not putting them back together if he was feeling spiteful.) He and his older brother were not terribly close, but it was often Them Against The World (or the Wiccans, at least) so they had a wary alliance more often than not. Chase was marked as “gifted” when he was very young. By the time he was in grade school, he was getting a good deal of attention. Thanks to his parents’ touchy-feely ways, Chase was given a lot of focused one-on-one educational attention, which only encouraged him to do better. He begged to go away to magnet school, but his parents wanted to keep him home. They compromised, sending him to special, intense summer camps but making him spend the year with them. It was the kind of torture only parents could dream up. When he was in high school, Chase met a guy named Amos online. The two began chatting—and arguing—and soon realized they had a great deal in common. They became fast friends despite the distance between them. Eventually Amos came to live with him. Once they were old enough, they took off together and went to MIT. They’ve been together ever since, through college and graduate school. They formed ZPM Enterprises together and hope to one day make a computer that outstrips Mac and PC. They’re getting there. In the meantime, they do contracting work and try to convince the government that they aren’t interested in making weapons, really. They’ve recently moved to the area to work on their PhDs, having decided their previous location did not have the research materials they wanted. Past Background Occupation: Chief Scientist of the Atlantis Expedition/Stargate Project scientist/Member of the SGA Alpha team Education: Double PhD Activities: Working, researching, working, researching, going on missions, complaining about missions, saving the day yet again, being saved by his team, fighting Wraith, passing out manfully. Home: Atlantis Finance: Rich beyond your wildest dreams from hazard pay. Too bad he can’t access his money in Atlantis. History: Rodney was born in Canada and, as a young child, wanted to be a pianist. He was told by his instructor, however, that he was “too technical” and would never make it, so he ended his musical dreams and focused on Astrophysics. He was a certified genius, having built a model atomic bomb for his sixth grade science fair, which attracted the attention of the American government, who hired him (even at his young age) for an intelligence project. (Even so, he didn’t win the science fair.) His parents never quite got along, and they blamed their marital issues on him. He didn’t care for them much, though he did love his sister Jeannie, also a genius. He went on to gain two PhDs and eventually worked for the US Air Force, joining the Stargate program. He grew distant from his sister when she chose marriage and children over Physics, as he was married to his work. He became an expert on the Stargate and Ancient technology, and despite a few minor mistakes (ones that got him sent to Siberia), he was appointed lead of the Atlantis expedition. In Atlantis, Rodney was forced to face death again and again, gradually becoming less cowardly and self-obsessed and more willing to risk his life for others. He still overestimated his own intelligence on occasion, once blowing up a good part of a solar system…but he liked to gloss over that and focus on all the times he saved everyone’s asses. He had a passionately one-sided affair with Sam Carter, an actual two-sided affair with Katie Brown, an uncomfortable body-sharing with Laura Caldwell, an accidental kiss with Carson Beckett, and an obnoxious crush on John Sheppard. He was always, in all things, exceptionally brilliant. Romantic Marital Status: Single Sexual Preference: Bi, leaning het but always willing to make exceptions. (Sex is sex, after all.) Past Relationships: A few. Present Relationships: Tim Morales Past Life Romantic Marital Status: Single Sexual Preference: Bi, leaning het but always willing to make exceptions. Past Relationships: Sam Carter (in his head), Katie Brown, a few others. Interesting Facts {O} PB is Jason Dohring {O} Player is Khirsah | |||||||||
